Clark Hill of Humboldt was here recently visiting his brothers, Raymond and Tom Hill. While here, Raymond and the visitor went out on a bear hunt. As is well known, Raymond seldom goes that lie doesn’t come in with the game, and this time the trophies were three bear,—two black and one brown; •captured on Black Butte creek near Hie Firebaugh ranch. One, a cub was captured alive, but while they •were rejoicing over the prospect of displaying the find, Mr. Bruin, evidently dreading the ordeal of meeting the rest of the Covelo nimrods, threw back his head against the rope and fell over dead. While Mr. Hill enjoys the sport of hunting for bear, he is also rendering a service to the cattle and sheep men in ridding the hills of bear and panther.
