WILS BERRY HAS GANE THAT HAS A HISTORYIT WAS MADE BY A SHIP CARPENTER AND GIVEN TO LEVI BURNETT IN 1851.Wils Berry has a cane presented to him as a birthday present that has quite a hit of interesting history. In 1849 Levi Burnett, of Miami township, drove an ox team overland to California, He was on the road four months. After working in the mines of the West he went to the coast and sailed for home, going via the Isthmus of Panama. He was forty days reaching the Isthmus and then had to tramp across that. He was ahle to catch one of Commodore Vanderbilt’s steamers and it was on this that he became acquainted with the ship’s carpenter.They became firm friends and the carpenter presented him a cane of tulip wood. He said that he had cut the wood south of Sidney, Australia, and was taking it to England to make canes to-sell. The cane was presented J to Burnett April 22, 1851. Remember- 1 ing that the same date was Berry’s i Birthday, Mr. Burnett gave him the i cane as a souvenir of his trip west and ] as a birthday present.
