ANOTHER GOOD SCHEME.A Project 10 lrrijguie Land in Kh-mernldn.The Walker Lake Bulletin says: On the 2d of November there uil! be a convention held in Hawthorne to discuss the proposition of a big irrigation scheme for Esmeralda county. At the present time quite a number of mountain Btreams run into MonoiLake. The water before reaching thelake ip fresh but becomes impregnatedwith mineral deposits in the lake andis useles for even irrigation purposes.The proposition is to divert thesestreams before they reach the lake and turn the water into a ditch, running down to a valley known as Whisky Flat where there is a site for water storage. The ditch would be about 4 feet deep and 6 fey,t wide, and take the water within 22 miles of Hawthorne, where it would bo about 1,000 feet above the city.Between Hawthorne and Whisky Flat is about 50,000 acres of as fine land as ever can be found in this State. The soil is exceedingly rich and every acre can be irrigated from Whisky Flat.The expense of this project has been estimated by engineers at about $600,000. The season begins about three weeks earlier here than in Carson Valley, and it is warm until January 1st.All kinds of grapes and^fruits can be raised here, including nuts aud semi-tropical fruits.It is proposed to float bonds to carry out this project, and there are also thousands of acres of fine timber lands that The ditch will pass through, thus 'developing a large section of country and promising a handsome return for capital.itat\rt£\I1
