D. Cameron then read letters from J 8. Meckling, of the Dakots Southern, Hubbard, of the Sioux City and Pembina, Drake, of the Sioux City and St . Paul, and from the Minnesota Southern. The writet of each regretted his inability to'attend the meeting, approved of its object ind presented the advantages of the proposed road In which ho is interested.On motion, a committee of Arp, consisting of £. A. Sherman, M. L. Wood, Joseph Roberts, J. L. Phillips and R. P. Pettigrew, were appointed to draft resolutions.The committee haying reported, a lively discussion ensued, wherein remarks were made by E. A. Sherman, Amos P. Shaw,M. L. Wood, Jud/e Brookings, Henry Smith,Newton Clark, R. F. Pettigrew, C.K. Howard. J. D. Cameron, C. W. Me . Donald and M. Grigsby. Some were for encouraging one road, some for Another; some for the broad gauge, sOme for the narrow, and all for taking steps toward or ganizing a railroad company.
