PB tHE Grand Jurors for the county aforesaid, make the following Presentiments : We congratulate vir fellow citizens for the abundant reason of thankfulness to the giver of all good, for bounti ful crops and good health; neither should we be unmindful of the spirit of the age on which we live—the arts and sci ences are flourishing—new improvements are progressing, and the sources of human happiness are continually en larging. ‘The former Grand Jury of this county having examined the county records and reported thereon, we deem it unne cessary to make further examination at this time. We present the bridge over Walnut Creek, at Crew's Mill, to be in very bad condition, the time of contract hav ing expired. We therefore recommend the Inferior Court of this county to have said bridge repaired as early as pos sible. We have allowed our ‘fax Collector one hundred and eleven dollars and seventy-three cents on his insolvent list. And whereas there are a number of insolvent execu tions returned by our collectors, we recommend to the In ferior court of this county, to dispose of them in such man ner as shall be most proviable for the county We regret the neglect of patrol duty and recommend that it be more efficiently attended to, as securing our property and main taining due and proper order among our slave population. We find that the reage leading through this county are in tolerable good repair, with the exception of a few places— the greatest inconvenience we find, is in the width. We therefore recommend to the commissioners to have them widened in every part where it is actually expedient. And whereas, there is a law in existence prohibiting men from voting at our elections, who have failed to pay their fiie amaire bt the renuesta dry carervith themnssecomment ers of the Legislature to seek out the source of this re superitet and to use their influence to have the evil reme fied. We deem betting on elections as only one remove from bribery, in some of its bearings, and consequently regard the custom as an evil,and do most earnestly recommend our Senator and Representatives to use their influence to have a law enacted that will effectually prohibit the prac tice, and request the Clerk of the Supertue Court to furnish a copy of the above presentment to our Senator and Rep resentatives. In taking leave of his Honor, Judge King, we tender him our most cordial thanks for the able and impartial manner in which the business of the court has been discharged. We also tender to Col. J. A.
