100 years agoFrom the Biddeford Daily Journal: “Everett Guptill, aged 32 years, who has been living at 65 Maple street, Saco, with his parents, was arrested this afternoon, about 2 o’clock by Captain Fred S. Doyle, on a warrant charging him with setting fire to the building owned by Hatch 8c Hall at the corner of Maple and Elm streets, this city, on the night of September 13, while people were asleep in the upstairs tenement. Guptill, who has been employed at the Diamond Match company plant on River street, was at his work when Captain Doyle placed him under arrest and took him to the police station where he was locked up.”— Al Edwards
