SLA Travels To MissouriOn Saturday, Oct. 26, the Student Library Assistants and their sponsor, Miss Esther Ilultncr, traveled to Hannibal, Mo., Mark Twain’s home town.There they say Twain’s boyhood home authentically furnished. Next to the house is a museum containing Twain’s original manuscripts, furniture, clothing, and photographs.The members then toured the home of Laura Hawkins. Her life was used as a basis for Becky Hatcher, one of Mark Twain’s characters. Surrounding the house is the well-known whitewashed fence from “Tom Sawyer.”Returning home, the SLA slopped in Keokuk to tour the “George M. Verity,” one of the last sternwheel steamboats on the Mississippi River.While there; they also visited the* power plant and dam.They also toured the Keokuk Public Library. This library, completed in 1.962, has become famous for its circular structure.Linda Kelley president of SLA, stated, “This trip was more than just fun, and may prove to be one of the highlights of our year.”
