NEW CONCORD—Flexing its mighty football muscles, Mus kingum College’s powerful grid juggernaut knocked previously unbeaten Otterbein from first place in the Ohio Conference standing here Saturday. The Fighting Muskies, com pletely recuperated from the flu bug which knocked their own title hopes awry three weeks ago, rocketed to a 61-14 victory before 5,000 appreciative Homecoming fans over the in vaders. Prior to the contest, Otterbein was the only team in Ohio boasting a perfect record. The defeat knocked the Otters into a second place tie with Denison with identical 4-1 records and elevated Wittenberg to the league lead with a 5-1 confer ence mark. The Muskies, surging up to a 4-3 season mark and a 3-3 OD record, scored the first three times they had the ball in the first quarter and were never threatened. Halfback Bill Frazier, who scored twice in the game on runs of 76 and two yards, capped a 50-yard thrust for the first touchdown when he bulled over from the two. Muskingum marched 75 yards the next time it got possession of the pigskin and found scoring range when halfback Bill Cooper piled over from the one. A 21-yard pass from Beach to Frazier set up the first score. A 58-yard drive in six plays netted the third Muskie TD with Gene Storts plunging three yards for the tally. Dave Myers raced 29-yards on a trap play to the enemy’s three to set up the score. Bob Carlisle split the upright with perfect placements after the first two touchdowns and Lou Benedict converted after the third as the Muskies took a 21-0 lead into the second quar ter. In the second period Beach passed to Barry Montgomery for a TD play covering 65 yards and Carlisle converted. Minutes later Muskingum made it 35-0 when Benedict plunged from the 3- yard line and Benedict convert ed. Cooper recovered an enemy fumble on the Otterbein 32 to set it up. Freshman Willie Long’s 14-yard jaunt put it on the 3. Otterbein made its first touchdown on a 66-yard drive in six plays with Larry Cline passing 43 yards to Garry Ne binger with six minutes left in the half. John McCreary con verted for a 34-7 halftime lead by Muskingum. In the third period Muskin gum made it 41-7 as Frazier galloped 76 yards for a touch down and Carlisle converted. Again in the third period Mus kingum took five plays to score again, Jim Bright plunging the final yard. Benedict converted. Barry Montgomery set up the TD drive by recovering an Otterbein fumble. In the fourth period Jay Mid dleton plunged from the Card inal’s 4-yard line to climax an 85-yard Muskie drive in 13 plays, but Frank Graves’ place ment missed. Otterbein tallied its second TD on Bill Bricker’s 8-yard run after a 44-yard Larry Cline to Ron Campbell pass set it up. Bricker converted. Muskingum’s final touchdown was scored on Jerry Moore’s 19-yard run which climaxed a 59-yard drive in 14 plays. Bill Biller kicked the 61st point.
