A. A. assembly program and to thank the students who took part.Students should agree that a great deal of talent linked with perserving study and practice was shown by the performers. “Practice makes perfect;”.so come forward you talented people, and exercise your gifts for the enjoyment of others.HALLOWE’ENHallowe’en that day of ghosts, jack o’lanterns and parties, is over for this year, but its history is of interest, nevertheless.It was a common belief, in early times, that on Hallowe’en night the spirits of those who had passed on during the year returned to visit home and friends. In Ireland, the Celts adopted a custom of the Romans and Greeks and held festivals to celebrate this occasion. At this time they put on their own hearth-fires and rekindled them from the fire on the highest hill. All sorts of magic rites were performed. Happily, our day does not include magic rites or witch craft, but who does not have one or two superstitions though not freely admitted?A COMPARISONIt is interesting to note that our college “straw vote” does not compare favorably with that of the Literary Digest. Quoting the Literary Digest of October 24, we find Landon leading with 54.8 per cent of the ballots while the Normal College gave him only 33 1-3 per cent. Roosevelt holding sixteen States, with 40.7 per cent, but the College gave him the majority of the votes, 58.8 per cent. Lemke is third in both cases, the Literary Digest giving him 3.48 per cent; the college vote 6.3.RADIO RETURNS TO NORMAL“This is the Columbia Broadcasting Company, bringing to you, through the facilities of station KKK a thirty minute speech by a presidential candidate? (Landon or Roosevelt.”)The mud-slinging is over, and whether or not the present administration has been spending too much money is now of little interest to any radio fan.
