Charles Hoerter, a veteran of the Civil War, died at his home on west Third street in this city, Saturday morning, at 4:30 o’clock. His death was cansed by cardiac asthma. On Friday he suffered paralysis of the right side, and just before he died his left side became paralyzed.Deceased was born on a farm near Jasper, September 21, 1841, and was 75 years, 1 month and 7 days of age at his death. ' In answer to Lincoln’s call for volunteers, he enlisted at Jeffersonjille . in Co. I, 49th Indiana Volunteers, In-| fantry. He served his country bravely and fearlessly, fighting with heart and soul for her honor and preservation. He fought to keep “Old Glory,” which he loved so well, still a Hag of the “free and the brave.”imiAfter the war he returned to his home, j thtoPrseiand on August 21, 1866, was united in marriage with Miss Mary Louise Strick-faden. Four children were born to them, all of whom are living, as follows: Joseph A. Hoerter and Louis W. Hoerter, of Louisville, Ky ; Mrs. Sophia Cummings, of Parkersburg, W. Va ; and Miss Nonie Hoerter, who resides in the parental home.Mr. and Mrs. Hoerter moved to this city soon after their marriage, and be secured employment with the Hunting-burg pottery, where he remained some 20-odd years, when he retired from' er active business life. He was a life-long he member of St Mary’s church in this fb city, also a member of Shively Post, No. W 68, G. A. R., of this city. By his death in the enrollment of this Post is reduced to ni only 18 members. Our dear old “boys jai in blue” are leaving us rapidly, answer- m; ing the final roll call.
