John Meuke, a yo* ng man tiring in St. Louis, atempted to murder his pretty cousin. Miss .Sophie Broecker of Springfield, 111., and to commit suicide, but was unsuccessful. He had leen very devoted to Miss Broeeker and determined to make her liis wife, hut she had refused to consent, both because of their relationship and because she was engaged to soother man.
