Short History of Men Who Are Candidates on Muni cipal Ticket. Short histories of the men who are on the Democratic ticket, in the municipal campaign, tomorrow, are of interest, and the Times pre sents the following review of the candidates who ask your support on the absolute pledge of BETTER government of Lima. FRANK A. BURKHARDT Candidate for Mayor. Born in Shawnee township 46 years ago. He walked two miles daily to the Cridersville High School from which he graduated. Later he went to Ohio Northern University, at which school he was both a stu dent and tutor. For about three years he taught school and established libraries in and near Lima. In 1895 a debat e formed of the fellow Judge Quail, Judge Klinger, Attorney Axline, and Frank Burkhardt. In 189% he was asked to fill a temporary var vancy at the CL i. D. ticket officer and tter was named assistant agent in 1960 he suc ceeded Jum Dureh as Ticket Agent of the L. E. W. and about two years later was named Joint Agent of the two roads in 1458 he was made Division Passenger Agent of the C. L. M., and also of the Fort Wayne-Lima Traction Com pany. In 1907 the Ohio lectric was formed and he was named Dis trict Passenger and Freight Agent with headquarters in Lima. ‘his position he filled until October, 2919. While railroading he also engag ed in real estate business. His first investment was only $200, but by judicialls buying and selling and de veloping additionsle secured some Valuable holdings. In partnership with H. M. Dilte they purchased the site of the old Hover ice pond on d West ilm at about $400 per lot. Af ter filling in some 6000 yards of dirt they transformed the place in to valuable property. Lots are now valued at $2500 each. Later Mr. Burkhardt associated with the Fimner D. Webb Co., and several valuable additions were developed. Burkhardt is an enthusiastic ‘bowls Tle was also known as checker player of repute while with the C. H. D., and played many games by telegraph with players in ‘other cities ie won Secretary of the Ohio Association at that tui Atimes during these years he instructed in mathematics in the M.G. A. night school and also studied the tune arts and during the last ten years he has won over lof JUN6s3 throntesty.
