Schermg sa\s he will build another home for himself on his corner lot, which he will not sell.Rudolph Schmolt will move here from Schaumburg and occupy the Gol deman house, recently vacated by Fted j Eocrle.The Roselle Volunteer Fire Department had a very urgent call, Wednesday evening, Oct. 25, to the big hre on the U. S. baker farm, one mile east of Meachain Chief Sauerman and Asst Chief Leiseberg happened to beat Hat-tendoif’s store, when the call came and hustled the boys together, taking the hose cart with j. H. Hattendorf’s team Capt. Schauble in charge, making ttierun in 6 mifiutes, followed closely by^hief Mid ~Ast. Chief *id Enginer Vaas in charge of the engine, drawn by Henry Krum-wiede’s team. The boyscertainly gave a good account of themselves for speed and efficiency. The praise from Eye wittnesses that the old engine is getting lor the force and volume of water thrown is certainly deserving. Capt. Schermg of the hook and ladder truck with his assistant did splendid work. The boys regret that they could not give an exhibition of the full powers of then ngine, because the water gave out.Several towns along the C. M. St. '. R’y., celebrated Hallowe’en with a engtaace. H. W. Schnadt’s mill and elevator at Ontarioville was burned to ttie ground, Tuesday afternoon. J. C. Hattendorf had loaded with baled hay, a box car that stood on the track back of his saloon and received his bills ready for shipment About 9 o’clock pm it was discovered to be on fire. Chief Sauerman immediately rallied the Vol. Fire Dept., had the car uncoupled, and pushed east off end of the side track, so south-west wind woald not blow the flames toward adjacent buildings. Every body turned out, worked all night and confined tne fire to the hay and c.lt;r which were totally destroyed. The fire dept, did valient service with their engine. Especial pr.iise lsdue those who worked the pumps. The fire engine emptied the town well in 40 minutes and tne bucket brigade pumped several other wellsdry ltwasonly by the most vigorous work that J. H. Hattendorf’s store and tool sheds and the R. R. oil house were saved. Several of the fire men, Asst. Chief Leiseberg, R. F. Schermg, Herm. Schmoldt and Aug. Scharlau were sevetely burned. Chief Sauerman stuck to his post, though drenched with water. Several boys who first started with the hose cart were run over and bruised.
