Gives Brief History of Army of Tennessee. This society of the army of the Tennessee held its rd annual reunion at Toledo, on the 26th and 27th of the recent month. Capt. L. W.Richardson, of the city, who served during the war, in that old army, was in attendance at this reunion and from him we have this brief history of the organization which shows the society to be the first ex eol ier organization of the officers of the army of 1861 and '65. A few of the old soldiers of the army of the Tennessee Infy., prior to their muster out at Raleigh, N.C., in April, 1865, formed this organization which was to be composed exclsively of the officers of that army. Soldiers who served honorably as offices in the army of the Tennessee were elegable to membership of application. The first president elected was General Rollins, General Grant's Adjutant General during’ the entire war. At his death he was succeeded president by General sher man and at his death General Dodge waslected his successor, who is the present president of the society. ‘Thus there having been only three presidents of the society in the 83 years. General Andrew Hickenlooper, of Cincinnati, the recording secretary, and General MI. * 8, Force, governor of the State Soldier's home as treasurer, have continued as Permanent officers for the entire ‘33 years, General Hickenlooper, president at the Toledo reunion. ‘The treasurer's report shows money on hand from membership and ones, to g bbe #14,000.00, which shows the society has been a live and prosperous organization. Aside from this fund the members have erected a fine monument to General McPharson at Clyde, C., who was in command of the army of the Tennessee when killed in the battle near Atlanta, Suly 2204, 186. The organization has representatives in every state in the union, and has held a reunion each year since its organization except on three occasions when circummstances prevented the meeting. ‘This last meeting was the 3rd meeting held in'Toledo. ‘The first reunion held in Toledo was on Oct. 15th and 16th, 1873. 2+ that meeting were present as members of the society, Generals Grant, Sheridan, Logan, Hope, Walbbert, Nays, Smith, Wagner, Fuller, J. ©. Lee, Rear Admire, Worden, General strong, J. W. Dayton, General Buckland, and General W. 8. Leggert, of whom all are, now dead. W.R. Wert, later State chief justice, a resident of Toledo, presided at the banquet and it was here that General Grant first made his acquaintance.
