MELBOURNE NEWS.(drtftiii.)Tbt anuual election of city councillors took place yesterday, and in fonr out of the five wards into which the city it divided, went off quietly enough. There was no opposition whatever to the re-election of Mr E Cohen, for Lonsdale Ward ; of Mr Hughes, for Gippe Ward ; of Mr Wragge, for Latrobe Ward ; or to the return of Mr Samuel A mesa (in the room of Mr John Edwards, sen, retired), for Bourke Ward. But in Smith Ward, Mr Abraham I.inacre and Mr Arnold appeared as coraieting candidates with Mr J. G. Goldsmith for the vacant seat, and a poll was therefore appointed for Friday next, the 41b insif 1 \
