The Legislature of this state convened at Milledgeville on Monday last. Allen B. Powell ot McIntosh county was elected President of the Senate, on the second ballot, by the following vote : A. B. Powell, 27—Thomas Stocks, 22—Zadock Cook, 3. Wm. Y. Hansel!. Esq. was unanimously re-elected Secretary of the Senate—Henry Williams appointed Messenger xndRUodam A, Green door-keeper.In the House of Representatives. John Abercrombie, of Hancock, was elected Speaker— the votes were, for Abercrombie, 55—General Adams, (the torrner Speaker) 47. Wm. C. Dawson, Esq. was unanimously re-elected Clerk, Asa Newsom Messenger, and John D Stapleton, door-keeper.The whole number of votes given in the state (with the exception of three counties, from which there was no return) is 35,885, of which there were for the “ People,” 19,999—R T ^ ^.1^1. 4 ..
