Letters To The EditorGeneva Concerts Role ExplainedTo the Editor:To Hobart and William Smith students:A.s president of Geneva Concerts, Inc., 1 am writing this letter to try and explain and perhaps answer some questions that might be in your minds as to the very important relationship between the Colleges and our organization. For many years now, Hobart and William Smith Colleges have worked closely with Geneva Concerts., Inc., in sponsoring a series ol major musical events during the academic year. This cooperation exists in several different forms: a majorgrant of $4,000 is given Geneva Concerts, Inc., each year to help supply financial aid lor purchasing the services of well-known artists: at least three to four members of the Colleges community are represented on the Board ol Directors ol Geneva Concerts, Inc.; on occasion student representation has assisted in the iormulation ol programs lor the series: all students ol Hobart and William Smith Colleges are admitted to all concerts by showing their identification cards at the box otfice on the night ol the concert without charge; and every effort is made, in cooperation with the Colleges, to sec that concerts do not conflict with schedules that you might have.Since this agreement has been in elfect it has always been announced in all publicity and on all programs that the series is sponsored bv Geneva Concerts, Inc., and Hobart and William Smith Colleges. This year, because ol the arrangements made with the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra, it is “Geneva Concerts, Inc., Hobart and William Smith Colleges., and the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra Present.’There are six concerts scheduled this coming season, one ol which was held on October 15th at the Geneva Theatre. The other concerts and dates are: November 19, Arthur biedler, guest conductor, Syracuse Symphony Orchestra; January 21. Syracuse Symphony Orchestra. FrederLk Praus-nitz, conductor; February II, Syracuse SymphonyOrhcestra Rock Ensemble; March 21. Vienna Choi Boys; and April 8, Gary Graffman, pianist, wit! the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra, Fredcrik Praus nitz, conductor.I am taking the following steps to insure clos cooperation between our organization and the Col leges. Firstly, 1 have appointed Prolessor Josepl Berta, currently a member of Geneva Concerts Inc., Board of Directors, to the nominating com mittee for new members to the Board and for exec utive officers of the organization. Secondly, 1 ar recommending that two members ol the sttiden body, one from Hobart and the other from Willian Smith, be appointed by the Colleges as ex officii members of the Board of Directors and also th Executive Committee ol Geneva Concerts, Inc Thirdly, 1 am recommending that a member ot th Colleges community be appointed an executive off cer in the Geneva Concerts organization.I will not hesitate to stress the importance c the Colleges contribution and participation in thi community-wide venture. Your grant ol $4,000 rep resents anywhere from one-third to onc-lourth o the total dollars that we can expect to receive durin the year. Frankly, if it were not lor the continuin cooperation of the Colleges, and you as student: it undoubtedly would be impossible lor Genev Concerts, Inc., to survive as an organization o for the city ol Geneva to have such an oundin musical series as it has presented lor so man years. We hope that you will attend as many ot th concerts as possible For us, there is no greate reward than to see a large group ol students, sue as we had at our lirst concert on October 15. com to see some of the finest artists in the world pei form live in our community.Sincerely your: R. IE. Krauss, President Geneva Concerts, hu
