By LUGLINE FINLEY JR, Staff Writers A Human Relations Com mission suggestion Wednesday to corbine dIRC and the Equal Opportunity Office into one agence, has incurred the wrath of £ OO. executive di rector. “It’s a sour grape deal. Seems to me HRC drags EOO in their meetings because they must have nothing else to do,” said Mrs. Iona Hend ricks, EOO executive director today. Mrs. Carolyn Golterman, HRC chairman, suggested at last night's commission meet ing, that commissioners con sider the possibility of re structuring HRC and EOO. The commissioners could not act formally on the pro posal because they lacked a quorum, ‘is a possibility, that by combining and coordinating the two offices the cost of run ning the two agencies would be less than now. In the proc ess we may eliminate the vorm mission,’? Mrs. Gotterman said, Mrs. Louise Wilder, HRC executive director, said: “Looking at both offices I think there can be improve ments. If we can bring better service than what we have today, Vm all for it.” Mrs. Hendricks said she agrees With the HRC execu tive director, “It’s important that the people get what they need but HRC is the one that needs to know its job,” Mrs. Hendricks said. Sees Duplication Mrs. Golterman indicated there is a duplication of pro grams by HRC and KOO. She said under a restructured pro gram a professional person in the field of human services could be hired to run the pro posed plan. “I know the work of human relations,” Mrs. Hendricks de clared. “I could do both pro grams, but my job is HOD, I have been in this field more years than I care to remem ber -- I know my job and | know what I im doing.” Mrs. Darla Blackwell, com missioner, suggested HRC and KOO should not be the only two city agencies considered in the restructuring. She felt the relocation office of the city’s Environmental Services and other agencies should be also considered. Mrs. Golterman said she agreed with looking at other city agencies but said she was primarily concerned with EOO and HRC. Mrs. Gotterman said the suggestion to the commission on the redistricting is the re sult of talking with individuals within the city government and outside. May Go to Council ?If we can come up with some kind of concrete plan, we will present it at the City Council’s budget hearings in early January,” Mrs. Gotter man said. She said the commission may have a general idea of the plan by the end of this month. City Manager Thomas Her ring said today the possibility has been brought up more than once by members of the City Council. Herring felt the idea should be explored. Mrs. Gotterman said she will telephone other members today to find out their feelings before proceeding. Members present last night tentatively plan to visit Bloomington, where such a program is in operation.
