Expulsion of Jews from Portugal. It was at the request of the king and queen of Spain,whose daughter Isabel-OCT. SI, la he wished to marry, 1497 that King Manuel decided to expel all the Jews from. Portugal. The edict which was dated Dec. 25, 1496, ordered all of the Jews to be out of the country within ten months. His hope was that the majority would get themselves baptized first. But he was disappointed.
