I. O. Idwia, Populist tfomlnM.El MTUK DiBPAvt'H.With the privelege of a small space in your paper, I wish to drop a remark or two with regard to the fitness of Mr. Edwards tor the responsible office of Assessor.First, he is one among the early pioneers of Mendocino county, a practical farmer and stock raiser, of steady habits. After a residence of 25 years in our county of an unobetrucive quiet life, bis fellow citizens having seen fit to confer on him the nomination for 'lie office of aeeeseor (without intervention on his part) has concluded to uccept the nomination at their hands as a mark of horor and distinction and cast in his might on the side of retrenchment and reform, as against the present extravagance and inequaliciee in the dispensing of our laws. Therefore, he is not only eminently qualified to fill the office but is decidedly in favor of a 25 per cent rebate on salaries of all county officers throughout, and should he be so fortunate or unfortunate as the case may be, to tie elected—feels himself pledged to this ruling in his own case and favors the applying the 25 per cent rebate to school funds.
