Balcly of Catawissa is a man of true and tried integrity, and since the law, in matters of discretion, gives the associate judge equal powers with those of the President judge, it is of great importance that only such as he be elected to the position. Many associate judges have been utterly unlit for the positions they held. No one ever considered them any more ornamental than so many mummies on revolving chairs. As to their usefulness that is entirely destroyed by their being moveable instead of stationary blockheads. If they were the latter the judge might repose his judicial foundations upon their shins, while the lawyers might hang their overcoats upon their smooth and empty pates. In P. R. Baldy the voters of Columbia County have presented to them as candidate for the position of Associate judge, a man whose intelligence, judgment and exalted character fit him in every respect for the office.
