He was born i„ Ssjg ’* Mass. lie was a volunteer at battle of Bunker Hill, and iva* ea!? commissioned as nil asi™ ; New-Hampshire Line. a„d rose to the rank of a captain,and J actively engaged in life Counlrv“ service during the Itevolutioni^war. He was in the memorabtbattles of Trenton, Princeton }{ * mouth, and Saratoga, and in others of minor import. Aftertaking of Burgoyne he joined th* Commander- iu-Chief at the Ya!^ Forge, and during that severe Vn,i^vere and irying winter he was an ac(in?cer under the celebrated Allen \fc*Lane, of Delaware, who carriedsuch distress and consternation intothe British ranks. He was also Gen. Sullivan in his famous Indian Expedition. After pence was ij,! clared, and our independence acknowledged by the British Crowr he was appointed a Captain by O J Washington in the army of the renowned Wayne, and was soon after commissioned as a Major, in which rank he served until he resigned his command, and settled upon an extensive and beautiful farm on the Western banks of the Muskingum and by his goodness of heart and many intrinsic virtues, proved to the world that a have soldier will make a good citizen. On this delightful i*pot, after rearing to maturity a large and highly respectable iamilv, he left his earthly remains to join hi* companions in arm- in another and a better world, leaving a widow and numerous descendants to deplore his loss.
