The Braithwaite Paper Mill. The great paper mill erected some years ago at Braithwaite, in the upper end of the parish on the old Orange Grove plantation, has had a somewhat checkered career thus far. The original intention was to manufacture paper from bagasse and a large amount of bagasse was held in reserve for that purpose. The paper mill was a high class paper mill, with all the monern improvements up to the time of its construction, and the results in the manufac-bagasse without any loss, but without any resulting profit, or without any profit of any moment. This led to a suspension of activities and in the meantime certain parties have taken up a different line of operation and are handling pine sawdust, brought from the Bogalusa mills. This experimentation has been going on now for several months and the results are said to be quite satisfactory. Good wrapping paper has been made and it is stated that some experiment has been made in, or will be made in the manufacture of writing paper. As printing paper is the great desideratum these days, it would be hoped that they could be successful in the manufacture of printing paper. But we have learned nothing definite about that thus far. We sincerely hope that the whole venture will prove a success.. . .. 111 1 _The Braithwaite Sugar Factory.Reports have been current that the Braithwaite sugar factory, located some sixteen miles below New Orleans on the Louisiana Southern Railway, would not be operated any longer than this season by the present lessees, the Kenilworth Sugar Co. In that event the property would revert to the control of the owners, the United Railway and Trading Co., who also own the Louisiana Southern Railway, now under lease to the Frisco people. The sugar factory i.-» now being improved by the introduction of the machinery necessary to utilize the Wiese plan of white sugar manufacture. This has been made quite a success in Canada and it is thought that similar success can be realized here. If the experiments be successful it is expected that the work will go on continually, using Cuban sugars, melting and refining them in the ordinary way in refining excepting by adopting the Wiese process.illtionthaiaccinota pcwhitaklt;costtribmarthes££.0.lessmatin cihegivlt;itheandceeiera!theteeandpolitinijur;lar*hocvvoianncmivailconneccarit hthaconquias 1goo, tioi is r be jur jur ode wii ope | am
