C.’s, at the beautiful new hbme of Mr. and Mrs. O. L. Crowl, Thursday, October 24, was a great success. Especially did the young folks enjoy the game of Bunco, and this club hopes to give a series of parties during the winter for our young folks, and incidentally to help swell the public library fund. We have no doubt but that this will meet with the approval of all those who enjoy a pleasant eveniug, and especially will they be glad to have a hand in furthering the project of a Carnegie library for the city of Eufaula. We have great pride iii our city, and while it is now one of the best little cities on the line of the Katv. weThe young folks* the old folks, and aurely not last and least, the children 'of our beautiful, enterprising city will have, not only good literature to read, but the best literature to read, which will make for our future city the best and most honored citizenship., If we, those who have the public good of our city at heart, do not guide th s^f 00 ts tep8^of«iq^r,; you ng—guide their trend of thought—look to their proper environment, how can we hope to make of them honored citizens? Some wise governor has said,4'The best asset of our fttate is our citizenship.” It Is up to the men aud women of Eufaula to look to its citizenship, and by systematic reading we can bring up our boys and girls just as we wish to have them “By lending a hand.14 “Look up, not down; look out, not in ; lend a hand.’1 It is your library, ft is your son and your daughter.A letter has been written to Mr. Carnegie's secretary, of New York, and the requirements necessary to proceed toward getting a darnegie library are the follow!ug: The lot hi us t be In sight and a deed to the city procured—(it does not require any stipulated amount.) The amount allowed by Mr. Carnegie to cover the costof a library building is according to a standard based on (a) the population, which is to pay the tax for carrying on the library, and (b) a specified minimum revenue from such tax. The donation is only sutll-cient to provide needed accommodation, and there will be either a shortage of accommodation or of money If the primary purpose is not kept in view, viz: To obtain the utmost useful accommodation for the money consistent with good taste in building. To this end who will donate a site for the Carnegie library? We have lots already donated, but we want more so we can pick our location.What better monument can you erect iu Eufaula to your memory and to be handed down to your children and to posterity yet unborn than a building of learning, where the rich and poor alike may drink at the same fountain of knowledge, and to those who are willing to get an education when they have not the wherewith (the money) to pay for it. That is w'hat Mr. Carnegie is doing, and there are people in the city of Eufaula who are also as geuerous, especially so when it comes to-making this city a better place to live in, morally and intellectually. The best is none too g od for our boys and girls. So, who' will add a lot to those already offered? It means the improvement of any property in the vicinity of the library. So, get busy.
