from top to bottom, and the people say as a whole, it is the best ticket ever put in the field in Apache county. Henry Heide our next council man to the 18th Legislature arrived in St Johns, making friends with all persons whom he meets, he will make a popular legislator, a pure American, and a true friend of the wage worker. We just received report from the Springerville school, the first month opens with 76 achouts, this speaks well for that district, and we think the children and parents should be proud of such exaltent teachers as Prof. John A Gammill and Miss N, lichen [ansch, ee Miss Laura Sharp and Miss Ame lia Hont reports their departments in our public school as doing nicely and the pupils improving to the en tire satisfaction of their teachers. St. Johns is to be congratulated up on having teachers of such exilent qualification, em Messrs. Haines, Scott and Potter the elite of the republian party in Apiche county, would make more votes by sending their photograhs to Arbuckles Coffee Co.c and have them placed in the group of “Beaut iful Birds of America.” Col. J. F. Wallace is entitled to great credit for his neat and splen did job on the great register, we venture the assertion “that itwill not have a superior job in the Ter ritory, and we doo believe an equal. ee as The “Republican meeting at the court house on the evening of the 30th, was a very tame affair, there was nine republican nominees pres enty they patted each other on the and told what good boys they would be if the people would only elect (Sines quenr, ——__ » The Mexican brass band render ed some beautiful pieces of music last Tuneday evening, at the repub lican meeting, within a very short time the newly organized band will be a credit to St. Johns and A che county, see Aspinwall in his statement ad mits, Heide is the working man’s friend, but fails to alate how he (As pinwall) left his bride in Prescott, had himself sworn in as deputy Marshall, so that he could better oppose the working people, who were citizens of this county, for the benefit of a corporation James S. Barton of Kaneas City, member of the well known firm of Barton Brothers, jobbers in boots and shoes, visited our village last Saturday. He reports that business throughout the country east of us was never more flourishing than at present. There is a decided revival in all business and manufacturing industries since the passage of the Wilson bill. The voters of Apache county should remember that Will C. Barnes as a member of the Board of Super visors claimed he was entitled to received from Apache county §1, 800 per year as salary, instead of $450, and caused suit by mandamus to compel the Probate Judge to audit said claims before Judge Wells, he ( Wells) sustained the Pro bate, then suit was brought at the suggestion of Barnes, and Judge Hawkins sustained a Probate Judge, Justice of the Peace and was held in the sum of $2,000 to await the ac tion of the grand jury, that night Dacy broke jail at Winslow and went east as far as Navajo, then he went back west to Holbrook and robbed F. J. Watrons’ store of about $400 mostly in jewelry, and took a battle of fine brandy, which pro bably caused his arrest. Men on horses in search of him found him looking for water he had drank all the brandy and was burning up in side from its effect, in this chase Mr. Ford is deserving great credit for his energetic work in causing the re-arrest of the young and des perate criminal. ——_————____ When the people of Apache coun ty want Englishmen to make laws for them they had better import some ex-member of Parliment, and not take a plebian. Mr. F. T. As pinwall is a croni office seeker, two years ago he wanted to be a candi date for the Legislative and consult ed the District Attorney to find out if he was eligible, not having taken out his final papers at that time. Voters do you remember Will C. Barnes when he was a member of the Board of Supervisors, virtualy an agent of a bridge corporation in one of the states, how he lobbied and worked with the board for con tracts and worked through contracts for iron bridges to the amount of some $14,000, but the Board found out after the contracts were made ‘that there was not funds sufficient ‘to carry out the contracts in full. One peculiar work of Barnes was that this foreign corporation should not give a bond for the faithful per formance of their contract. Again when Mr. Minnerly puts in a bid for a bridge at Snowflake, and is awarded the contract a good and re sponsible citizen of this county, then we hear again from this glibb tongued self conceited Will C. Barnes about bonds, Mr. Minnerly was com pelled to give a giltedge bond. Phe nix would be entirely to small for Barnes, if elected to the Legisla ture.
