Sd. for the purchase of a site and erection thereon of a *Home for Waifs and Strays.’ This gentleman is usually habited ina frock and cowl, and solicits orders for coal at the same time that he collects funds for his proposed Home. The Executive Committee of the Church Society for Providing Homes for Waifs and Strays will feel much obliged if you will allow me to state in your columns that Mr. Helmore is not, nor ever was, connected in any jvay with that Society, which . so far as I am aware, is the only central Church organisation for the rescue and care of neglected children of all ages and bovth sexes. ”The Institution at Larbert for Imbecile Children.-—Theannual meeting of the Edinburgh Ladies’ Auxiliary of the Larbert Institution' for Imbecile Children took place in the Bible Society’s Rooms, 5, St. Andrew-sq., on Nov. 4. Dr. A. Thomson presided, and there was a large attendance of ladies. The Chairman, in the course of a few remarks, said it was very gratifying to find that while many other institutions had suffered from the trade depression of the past few years, that institution had experienced an increase in its funds, and at present Was almost floating on the top wave. Mr. Fitch, secretary, said the enviable position in which the institution was placed was owing very much to the splendid organisation that existed throughout the whole of Scotland, and which was nowhere better than in Edinburgh. The institution had never failed in its appeal for funds when an object was to be attained, and he thought it would not fail in the future.
