Sports Editor Stan Jones is full of stories but most of them are never printed. By the time Jones graduated from Joplin Junior College and attended journalism classes at the University of Missouri, the newspaper business was old hat. Jones started hawking newspapers at age six in Joplin In 1966 Jones began working at The Carthage Press as wire editor which included the court house, fire and police beats. He soon took over the sports desk and confesses that it’s not the money, but the people that keep him sitting there. Jones recalled the highlights of his career which include a pic ture of Marti McCarty shoveling snow in a bikini, an interview with a drunkard on the airport runway (he mistook it for 1-44) and the year that Carthage made it to the state basketball tour naments Recently Jones expressed concern about himself when “I tried to think of one good habit I have and couldn't. In reality, Jones has served as president of the Carthage Area Sheltered Workshop and worked on the original committee to establish the shop. He has been Eastern Jasper County water safety director and is a member of the Carthage Jaycees, having also served a year on the state committee. In addiiion to sports photography, Jones enjoys water sports and is qualified to teach sailing, canoeing and rowing. He likes to travel by air also,and has visited 3 foreign countries with the U.S. Navy Reserve Jones and his wife Pam have twin daughters Jennifer and Stacy.
