Isbon M. Kickliter, 59, was arrested today by federal authorities on charges of violation of Internal Revenue laws, involving the sale of moonshine whiskey. Kickliter, operator of a Gulf service station at Harrison Avenue and Fourth Street, was freed of a conspiracy charge in federal court three days ago, along with Sheriff nominee M. J. Kickliter was booked at the county jail and was arraigned before U. S. Commissioner Ernest Collins this morning. Bond was set at $2,000, and Kickliter was freed when bond was posted by E. M. Hobbs and A. O. Marlowe. Kickliter was charged in a fed eral warrant, issued Tuesday by U. S. Commissioner John H. Car ter Jr. in Marianna. The suspect as charged with unlawfully pos sessing “115 gallons of distilled, spirit’ to which no tax paid stamp was attached and selling the moonshine whiskey on or poout Feb. 16 in Washington County. Another count in the federal warrant charges Hickliler with possessing and selling 100 gallons of untas paid whiskey on Feb. 17. An affidavit accusing the sus pect was signed in Washington Collms by Thomas D. Anderson, a criminal investigator for the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax Divi sion of the Internal Revenue Serv ice. When arraigned today before Commissioner Collins, Kickliter chose not to proceed with the ar ragnment until his attorney, W. Fred Turner, was present. When informed there would be no questions asked at the arraign ment and that only a bond would be set by the commissioner, bind him him over to U. S. District Court, Kickliter agreed to con tinue with the proceedings. The suspect waived a prelimi nary hearing. He told the com missioner, “It's going to court anyway. I don’t see any reason to have a little court here and anoth er san Marianna.” When advised by Commission er Collins that he did not have to make any statement, Kickliter re pled, “I haven't got anything to Silver Bond was made returnable on the list Monday in December, which is the beginning of the next term of federal court. If the case can be brought to trial before December, Kickliter will be noti fied, Collins said. Kickiter, who lives at 921 Mc Kenne Ave. was one of seven men indicted by a federal grand jury late last year on charges of conscimacy to violate federal liq uor laws.
