Means of Charleston, however, it passed a resolution keeping open negotiations for the Cooper river span' and permitting action by the 1937 legislature.Means attributed, the late effort to pass bills this year to the fact that negotiations had not been fully completed.The house applied a vote of 67 , to 16 to vetoes of five road reimbursement bond acts which it overrode during the day.The five were for Anderson, Spartanburg, Dorchester, Colleton, end Jasper. All except the Anderson one became law immediately, since the senate already had overriden the rejections.The legislature ratified acts to -create a state department of labor, to prohibit docking of Horses’ Tails, to 63dem.pt air-conditioned trains from requirements for conger deflectors and wire screens.It also ratified three tax exemption acts, to exempt donations ’of South Carolina corporations to the American Red Cross from income taxes, college athletic con-.tests from license taxes, and bank stock and capital bonds from-£2.X6S«The senate ‘■'bob-tailed” and sent the house *a bill by Senator ft. M. Jefferies of Colleton to increase the maximum gross weight limit on trucks from 20,000 to 30.000 lbs., ■with a limit of 13,000 pounds to the axle.
