POSTS OF FIFTH DISTRICT TO BE ENTERTAINED JUNE 19 ~—HEAR PROF. JOSEFFY The Oak Park Post No. 15, American Legion, last Tuesday night held the first of its two big meeting of the month. The second will be the entertainment of all of the posts in the Fifth district which will be held at the Oak Park Y. M. C. A. Wednesday, June 19. Although suffering an attack of laryn gitis, Prof. Joseffy doggedly filled his engagement last Tuesday. Between sips of ice water he kept his audience of 300 Legionnaires, their friends and distin guishes guests in alternate laughter and gasping as he unfolded trick after trick in legerdemaine, as yet unsolved. Introduced by Vincent Gottschalk, chairman of the entertainment committee, as having always been a deep student of metaphysics, Joseffy keeps a standing offer of $509 to any spiritualist demon strating any feat of so-called spiritism that cannot be reproduced by himself. He produced colored handkerchiefs from thin air and made them disappear just as mysteriously. Cards selected from a pack by members of the audience and held by them were called in quick succes sion by the necromancer. The feature of the evening was a dem onstration of the famous talking skull. President Charles Crysler, Dr. W. A. Ribbeck, Henry W. Beecher and Father F. P. Coupal constituted a group to hold a square of plate glass on which rested the highly polished skul dressed only in a white frill around the neck. Joseffy then asked many questions which were promptly answered by the clicking of the skull’s teeth. Two clicks meant “no” or “nothing” and three clicks meant “yes.” With no mechanical or electrical connec tion whatsoever, and much to the aston ishment of the prominent assistants, the skuN turned on the glass plate so that it always faced the magician and cor rectly answered the questions, told the correct time and worked simple arithme tic problems. Among the prominent guests who were invited particularly to solve the mystery of the talking skull were: Charles Crysier, President of Oak Park; Ferry, Commander of Phil Sheridan Post, G. A. R.; S. C. Postlewait, Post mander, Phil Sheridan Post; John R. Bierma, Post Commander, U. S. W. V.; Z. R. Wil liams, Commander, Col. Brinkerhoff Poat, =ao W.; Dr. W. A. Ribbeck; Father P. Cougal, Professor, De Paul university; Weber Donald L. Barry, C. S. P., Old St. Marys; Henry Ward Beecher, President as club; E. Wegner, Oak Park Trust Savings Bank; Don Fraser; E. Shelby; E. W. Croft.
