FIFTH STAY FOR DOHERTYFo? the fifth time the execution of Charles Doherty for the murder qf Fred Murphv has been postponed. Pohe*tv was ponvicted in j August, 1900, and was spptepced to, he hanged on the second Fridav of March, 1901. On the ground of new 1 evidence and other important dcveUjopments, petitions for anew trial have been brought and by the action of the court Doherty has escaped the death penalty, although the last date set for his execution was May 20. On Wednesday the supreme court named Tuesday, Nov. 4, as the date of his execution.
