The WescEnd.A VISIT TO A GOAT FARM.♦IT is somewhat difficult to explain why goats are so seldom seen nowadays. Now. however, that her Majesty has had two goats sent her from Omdurman, they may become more popular.- The baroness burdett-CouUs' has for many years taken much interest in the poor man’s cow. and at her Highgate farm, she has now a very considerable lloek of nannies and billies. More interesting than usual are they just at this time of year, for the little kids are delightful to watch, jumping and skipping about their paddocks in the full enjoyment of youthful spirits.Most countries have their own breed of goat, but the Swiss and british goats are usually the most esteemed for their milking qualities, the milk being specially beneficial to infants, and in cases where all else has failed, a trial of goats' milk has saved the lives of manv young children.• lt;O'u Billy Grey Rock/’31, 1899.an English nanny. Gerty ” has now two kids, she is a grand type o, the English breed, and has won many prizes including five firsts. She is a first-class milker and a good mother. “ Beechnut is a smart little nanny and a good milker, yielding three pints daily, besides bringing up her kid. Another charming couple are “Bramble” and her kid : “ Bramble ” has had a most successful show career, having taken three first prizes besides others of lower value: she shows most of the Nubian type of the goat breed, which until recent years was seldom crossed with native breeds.Altogether at Holly Eodge harm the Baroness has about two dozen goats of various ages and breeds, all in the fullest enjovment of health . disease of any kind being practically unknown.
