Anticipating an early decision in this matter by the railroad company, Helena; mghas redoubled her efforts to make the ( road tributary to that point, and with this object in view the citizens have I ttl0 held a public meeting and will at to mpt1 oth to pledge to the compauy a sum of money supposed to represent the difference in the cost of a railroad from this city and one along .Sixteen Mile creek, as proposed by the people of Helena. To this end they will attempt to raise a 0't bonus of £250.000 to £300,000 to secure the proposed branch. But we do not believe that even this will induce the Northern Pacific to iclinquish the Shields River route, for the reason that the amount named would nut cover the additional expense of constructing a road over the Sixteen Mile pass as compared with the easy and natural water grade of the Shields ltiver valley. The difference in the cost of maintaining these branches would result in a large saving annually in favor of the route from Livingston. Another and a vital consideration to the Northern Pacific company, we believe, is the matter of securing the trallic of the fertile valley which it would traverse from this city. If this valley is not secured fo the Northern Pacific at tills time it will remain a menace to the company as offering totheHreat Northern an easy approach toward the National Park, the travel to which, it is understood, that company is desirous of securing. These are natural advantages possessedheisinis»gasInPSi-e-itby Livingston for this enterprise, whi•v,riiterwillclulraceRbegtheNfreeXfor iX best and Nc min Nc 875 ;Nc 875 a Nc 8100 Nc best Nc all; i 875 a En the [25 ieven Helena, with her boasted wealth, will be unable to counteract, and we are confident that Livingston will secure {he desired connection bv rail with Castle.horseentrio'cloiTfagrailsFowl of t h
