by SUSAN LESSMEISTER Sedalia Democrat CARROLLTON — Almost 17 hours after his escape, murder suspect Lawrence Schus ter was apprehended Thursday afternoon by the Carroll County Sher iff's Department three miles south of Carroll ton. Schuster bolted from the Carroll County jail late Wednesday where he was being held for Pettis County on a first degree murder charge. Schuster is accused of the March 2 strangula tion death of Robert Frye. Frye was choked to death in his Sedalia home with a hand tool called a come-along. Police believe that Schuster might have had a dispute with Frye over Schuster’s rela tionship with Frye’s 15-year-old daughter. Kay Winfrey of the Carroll County Sher iff's Department gave the following account of Schuster’s capture. Schuster broke into the rural home of a Carroll County man shortly before 3 p.m. Thursday. The man walked in on Schuster, who then used the man’s rifle against him. Schuster asked the man when his wife would be returning home. The man replied within 30 minutes. Schuster taped the man up, and stole his money and truck. The man was able to free himself and call the sheriff’s department at 3:25 p.m. He told them that Schuster was traveling south. The police spotted the fleeing fugitive and Schuster was arrested by 3:48 p.m. after he crashed the truck he was driving. Schuster was being held Thursday on $750,000 bond for his escape from the Car roll County jail. He was expected to appear in Circuit Court at Carrollton today on the escape charge. Schuster
