Flying Saucer Report From “Koondi”A flying saucer has been reported in the Mount Gam-bier district. It was sighted a week ago over the Livingstons’ property, “Koondi,” but the observers, thinking that they would be held up to ridicule, did not report what theysaw. In an interview with “The Border Watch.'' Mr. J. A. Black-more, of Kongorong, said that a week ago yesterday, about 12.55 p.m., he had just finished his lunch in a paddock at “Koondi,” where he worked, and he stretched out. sheltered from the wind by the side of a truck. As he looked up he noticed a strange object in the sky and called out to his three companions, Messrs. Cvril Blackmore, Lewis and Peter McQuade. The others saw the object too and they formed the opinion that it must have been one of the flying saucers which had been reported in other parts of Australia and throughout the world.Mr. Blackmore said they were about 23 miles from Mount Gam-bier in an open paddock. The saucer was flying south east, was making no noise, emitting no smoke or flame and was a white or aluminium colour. He was unable to tell how high up it was, but it was very high, perhaps five or six miles. It travelled very fast in a straight course and was only in view for five or six seconds, in Mr. Blackmore’s opinion. It was almost right above them as it travelled, across the sky.The speed at which it travelled would be much fasterthan any aeroplane which hehad seen, said Mr. Blackmore. There was nothing to indicate what was driving the “saucer” through the air.Discussing conditions at the time, Mr. Blackmore said the sky was clear and the day calm. Every now and then the object seemed to diop. It went right across the sun from where he was.Its surface was shiny and reflecting like an aeroplane body and looked about a foot across, from where he was. He had some doubt about its shape but it appeared to be round.Asked whether he had reported the matter to anyone, Mr. Black-more said, “No. Everyone we saw who heard about it asked us what we had been drinking. There was only one object, he continued, and although they looked again that afternoon, no more were seen.PICKED UP EASILYMr. Blackmore’s story was confirmed by his son. Mr. Cyril Black-more. He said it looked about five or six inches across from where he was.Its colour was white or silvery in his opinion, but not shiny. When his father cried out, “What on earth is that?” the ethers had no difficulty in picking up the object, just as easily as if it had been an aeroplane.Describing- his surroundings, when questioned as to whether someone from neighbouring scrub could be jlt;-king with the four of them, Mr. Blackmore said this was not possible because they were in an open paddock with the nearest scrub three to four miles distant. After the “saucer” had disappeared. Mr. Lewis McQuade said,: “It must be a flying saucer.”I Asked why they did not report the matter to any appropriate authority, Mr. Blackmore said they thought people would only regard them as fools.CHANCE DISCOVERYHe said that it was the merest chance that the object was spotted. His father had just stretched out on the ground at the precise moment that it came overhead. It could easily have passed over at any other time un noticed. The “flying saucer” mystery has been a topic of discussion in several continents for months now. At first their appearance was ridiculed, but persistent reports from various places have given strength to beliefs in a number of theories.A T.A.A. pilot saw a “saucer” near Sydney on Friday, four days after the one reported near Mount Gambier.
