THE R. H. S. CLASS OF ’13Commencement Exercises LastFriday Evening.The Rathdrum High School commencement program at the Preaiiy-terlan church last Friday night was largely attended, many people thus again showing their usual appreciation of and Interest In the work of the school. Diplomas were awarded to Miss Clarice Quarles, Miss Berner-dine Willis, Mr. Will A. Boekel and Mr. Byron K. Presnell, the class of *13.Superintendent L. A. Hunting presided. The program opened with the song, “How can I leave thee?** by the male quartet: Messrs. A. Baron Taylor, O. G. Farnsworth, N. H. Taylor and Geo. F. Wlllhelniy.The Salutatory was read by Miss Clarice Quarles. On behalf of the class of *13 Miss Quarles described the four years of high school work as years of studious effort and yet of pleasure In the mutually helpful association with classmates and teachers, and expressed the appreciation the class felt toward trustees, teachers and parents for the effort# and sacrifices they had made for the benefit of the school.The duet, “Life’s Dream Is O’er,” was sung by Miss Kruma Bourn and Mr. A. Baron Taylor.The address by Mayor W. J. Hind* ley of Spokane was copiously Interlarded with humor and anecdote. Mr. Illodley, who was formerly a minister of the gospel In Spokane, after bis usual manner, look advantage of the occasion to express his liberal Ideas on religion arid sabbath observance, and to declare his love for the western spirit and western standards of honor and Justice, as compared with the standards of the east. He said the west gives every man a chance but demands that be make good. In closing he said he hoped that the graduates of the high school would make good and thus do credit and honor to their school, their teachers, \ parents and country and to their God.A violin solo by Miss Ernestine Drennao followed the commencement address and preceded the Valedictory address by Will A. Boekel.Mr. Boekel spoke instructively oo the value of sincerity and cooperatloo and gave examples of how great things can be accomplished by uo-« filtering preseverance. Oo behalf of the class, he thanked the community for the Interest shown and support given to the students in all their school activities, scholastic, literary, e octal and athletic.Followiog a vocal solo, “The light of age*» by Mr. A. Baron Taylor, the diplomas were presented to the four graduates by Dr. Frank Weuz, clerk j of the school board. In bis brief address, Dr. Wenz took occasion to inform the public of the dicision of the board to add manual training and domestic science to the high schoolcourse next year.The exercises were closed with a i few well tbusen remarks by Prof. Hunting, Lb inking the audience for Its appreciati on, and interest !u the school.c1
