i** VM IThe third annual commencement of the Forrest high school will be held in the M. E. church on Tuesday evening, June 19. The class is the latgest in the county, and numbers three boys and eight girls. The number of boys exceeds that of all the other graded schools of the county combined, Odell, we believe, is the only other graded school having within the ranks of its graduates of ’88 a male member. A few pertinent questions naturally arise. Why do our hoys fail to remain in school long enough to tinish the course of study? Have they —the boys—less mental power, thereby being unable to do the work? Is it wise, on the part of a parent, to permit his son to lose the benefits of the public school because the boy can earn two or three dollars a week? Is it not a fact that the time spent in school between the ages of 14 and 17 is of more value to the child than all his previous school life? Is it not true that the average workman, mechanic, merchant can financial ly afford to keep his children in the public school until they have a good Knowledge of the subjects therein taught? These are questions of moment and should be considered carefully.
