James WaUon, well known in this section, and Albert Rankin of Snowshoa, both under the influence of liquor, were shown to the same room, at different hour* of the night previous. As we sre informed, when the flrst one was shown to his room he had with him a bottle of whisky, which be placed upon a stand, then went to bed and fell asleep. When hie com rad was brought up sometime afterwards, seeing the whisky bottle he grabbed it and was about to drink, when the servant took it from him, layinghe bad enough already, and would take the bottle away to leave them a bitters for the morning. In the morning the one that was conducted to the room flrst, re*marked to his companion that he bad a bottle and they would take a drink, and searching through the bureau for it they unfortunately got hold of a bottle of carbolic acid, which lay wrapped in a bunch of paper, for use in destroying vermin, and thinking it was their whisky bottle,they drank about two ot. of the dead.y stuff. The effects were almost instantaneous. WaUon, in his agony went down stairs and drank a large quantity of wster to quench the terrible burnings of the acid in his stomach, and then went to the stable where he was found about 15 minutes afterwards dead. In going to thebed-chnm-ber Rankin was found on the floor and dead too ; all this occurred perhaps in less than half an hour's time.
