Tom ~~ Lynch, Auburn High golfer, advanced to the second round in the Centre, New York Cities Conference individual golf tournament Wednesday by firing a fine 72 and edging Gary Ru tledge of Fulton. The round by Lynch was the best of all eight players in the head-to-head competition and he needed it as Rutledge fired a 73. Both players made the turn in 37 but Lynch came home with a 35 over the Tuscarora Country Club, Paris 71. Auburn's other qualifier, Mickey Chalnick, forfeited his match to Dave Gerken of Water town. Chalnick has obtained a job and chose not to participate in the competition. Lynch will now face Don Kalode of Bishop Ludden, the top qualifier in matches Monday at Lakeshore Country Club. Kalode romped over Gary Gerken, of Watertown 6-5 Wednesday. In the other match, Chuck Harty of Christian Brothers Academy defeated Gary Garahan of Oswego 2-up and now Harry will face Dave Gerken in the semifinals Wednesday. Both matches next week will be played at the Lafayette Country Club. The date of the finals has not been set as yet. Lynch, who hit 15 qreens in regulation figures, will be play ing one of the finest young golfers in the state. Kalode is only 15 years-old and is a freshman at Ludden. He is the defending New York State Junior Champion and is shooting higher. He has entered the Herald Journal Amateur tourna ment against all the Syracuse area topnotchers next week.
