Nyabing.Empire Day was patriotically celebrated at Nyabing School. Tbe chairman for the occasion, Mr. F. J. Charsley, opened by a speech to the children, and in a happy vein directed attention to the origin and significance of Empire Day. This was followed by short addresses by Messrs. E. A. Clegg (of Lake Pingrup) and H. Kippen. Under direction of the teacher (Mr. T H. 8herwood) the 14 Union Jack (presented by Mrs. Charsley) was then the subject of attention. Held by two of tbe senior girls, en tableau, the rest of the scholars inarched past and saluted it. All then joined in singing 44 God Save the King. The fiag was then hoisted and unfurled by the donor, and thechildren jointly recited The Union Jack, and a hearty volley of cheers brought about the dismissal of tbe school from routine.In the afternoon, in the presence of a good gathering, the children indulged in sports and games, and picnicked under aegis of the 44 Union Jack and the Australian flas, the latter presented by Mr. Geo. Hobley.The evening was marked by a concert and dance. Contributors to the former were Mesdames Charsley, and Liebig (songs), and Holtermann (recitation), Messrs. Clegg, Pierce, Hemingway, and Pope (songs), Manuel, Liebig, Holtermann, Mitchel, and Kippin (instrumental music). In the dance that followed some 20 couples indulged till the wee sraa* hours.
