He decided upon library buildings which would be useful to all mankind, regardless of class or creed, of the white races, and his work has already been manifest even in this state.A generous proposition, was made to the city of Mobile, Mayor Pat J. 'Lyons having been recipient of same, and he has put it up to the Board of Aldermen to accept or reject the proposition. The offer is a fair one. The Item hopes that the aldermen will ae-eept ft regardless of the opposition which is said to exist in that body.Mobile has a public library association which owns a plot onground whicbis ideal. It Is in. close proximity, within one block of every electric car line in the city except two, and these are available through the use of transfer tickets, is central in its location and in close proximity to the public and private Bchools of the city. The Mobile Public Library Association has, through its efficient and competent president, Mrs. James K. Glennon, expressed a willingness to donate that property for the building. This Is generosity personified. What .more could be asked? The cost to the city for the maintenance of the library will be small in comparison with the bene-flts to be derived by the general lie.
