In the course of the trial Judge- Lyon denounced the conduct of the young man In the strongest terms. This called down the wrath of the young man's friends on his head and they threatened to run him out of town. Rumors of their Intentions reached Judge Lyon's ears, and when ho finished argument he turned about and facing the vast crowd In the court house defied any one to attempt to Injure him, and In the most eloquent phillplc ever delivered In the Terrell county court house denounced every one connected with the plot and with defiance gleaming In his eye dared them all to meet him outside. The speech put an end to all threats to Injure him and he concluded the case In peace.Judge Lyon’s life was a long and useful one. Few men do as much good for othcra In a quiet, unostentatious way as he did. and still fewer men do as little harm In this world In a life as long as was his. lie loved his home and there he bullded his castle. With always a large Income his family has lived In the greatest cose and comfort, which was his chief desire.'i It* li«u lliuiaaof.Judge Lyon was a man of strong Impulses, and he always gave liberally to any laudable object that came to his notice. In his long practice he made some enemies, but his friends were legion and aa sincere as he himself was. He was plain spoken, but his hesrt was as tender os a woman's. Tboso who knew him best loved him most, and many young lawyers at the bar today feel that they have lost a friend and benefactor whoa* like they will never know again.Judge Lyon was a lawyer In every sense of the word, lie despised chicanery and trickery. lie would not try to gain a case by eloquent appeals to the prejudices and by appealing to the sympathies of a Jury, but would pro. pound the law and nothing but the law. He took great pride In his profession and did all in his power to uphold Its dignity, and often to his own pecuniary loos. He courted friendships but despised flattery In any shape whatsoever.All through his last Illness his mind was perfectly clear, and he was conscious of his approaching death, but be never complained. He knew that he bad lived longer than the time allotted to man and that his life had not been spent In vain, and when his pulsation ■topped and the weary wheel* of life stood. He studied law under Joseph Henry Lumpkin In Athens and wss admitted to the bar In 139. He Immediately took up the practice ot taw In Starksvllle, Lee county, and formed a partnership with John .Smith of Macon. He next formed a partnership with Lldwell M. Leonard.but soon removed to Albany and formed a partnership with Jam«« M. Macon, afterward with Judge Rllt; hard II. Clark and next with Green Butler.After remaining In partnership with Green Butler for several years he formed a partnership with Samuel Erwin. The partnership with Samuel Erwin was dissolved In 19, when he was placed on the supreme court bench with Joseph E Browojflttph II. Lumpkin -md Linton Stephens, lie remained on the supreme bench all during the war and until lMt. He then retired from that tribunal and took up hts residence In Atlanta.After remaining In Atlanta for two
