COUNCIL PROCEEDINGS. Manrrowoc, May 26, 1884. Board met. All present except Cone and Smalley. Mayor presiding. Min utes read and approved. Petition of F. Schimpf and Peter Zim mer asking permision to lay a private drain, referred to local committee of 3rd ward. Claims presented and referred. By Alderman Miller, appointing Math. Skarda pound master for north side.— Adopted. On report of committee on assessment and finance, clerk was instructed to cred it 3rd ward fund with $295 erroneously charged said ward in 1882 for culvert built, and charge said amount to the general fund. Adopted. Bond of city treasurer for $50,000 ap proved and ordered filed. Recommended by committee on fire and water that 500 feet of new hose be purchased and that 5 additional cisterns be built. Laid over. Petitions of F. Schimpf and Peter Zimmer favorably reported and permis sion to lay drain granted. Alderman Schmitz stated that com mittee to whom was referred petition of Fred Harris, asking that taxes be refund ed to T. C. Shore, refused to serve and asking for appointment of a new commit tee. Chair appointed Aldermen Wits, Tillson, Dumke, and city attorney. Motion of Alderman Rahr providing for purchase of uniforms for night watch men by the city, cost of such suit not to exceed $30. Lost, Dumke, Schmidt, Tillson, Wits and Meyer voting nay. Alderman Schmitz submitted ordi nance in relation to justice court. Re ferred to city attorney. Local commit tee of fourth ward reported favorably on petition of J. Pitz for removal of frame building in the limits. Petition granted. Alderman Rabr moved reconsideration of vote by which Weber was refused li cense. License granted by following vote. Ayes, Rahr, Schmidt, Dumke, Schreibardt, Meyer, Krainek, Nays, Tillson, Wits, Schmitz and Miller. Licenses granted to Stupecky Zee man, P. W. Wieboldt, M. Skarda, John Chichartek, Joseph Krainik, duly ap proved by the board. Under suspension of rules bills were allowed : fol lowing Nl. Gluhike and others, St work, let Borcherdt Co., gravel, Robert Eggers and others, street wo Nagle Borcherdt, printing, S. Olson, painting vault doors, com: P. Schreihardt, street commissione, John Bibinger, jail fees, J. Patterson, removing nuisance, ©. E. Estabrook, taking testimony, M. H. By Alderman Vits instructing marshal to notify all saloon keepers to take out license before next meeting of board. Adopted. On motion of Schmitz a board of ar bitrators is to be appointed to adjust matters between city and Truman Cooper. Adjourned to June 9, 1884. F. Herremay, Cit y Clerk. Mepread Vance or Wines.—As a gen eral rule the use of wine is not necessary for young or adult persons in good health, breathing country air and not exposed to overwork. As however life advances and the circulation becomes languid, natural red wine used in moderation, becomes an essential article and in many cases abso lutely necessary but it must be the pure products of the grape. And even in the Eastern States the physician meets large numbers of town people, especially women, who cannot digest the food and drinks suited to outdoor laboring peo ple. In sach cases they resort to the beverage of tea which gives rise to a dis tressing dyspepsia. The Wines produced in New Jersey, especially the Burgundy and the Port Grape Wines from Alfred Speer’s Vineyards, at Fassaic, N.
