Will lilt 11 Jl'liua II UUthe world havo a right to doubt the capability of man for self government.Indiana Asbury University.Wo have before us the Catalogue of this Institution for 1850. This University was incorporated in 1837, and tho same year a preparatory school was opened. In 1839 the fifrt cataloguewas issued, in 1840 the first commencement held. The number of students which in 1845 numbered85 lias been steadily increasing. In 1850 they amounted to 3*27. Of these 305 are from Indiana 6 from Iowa 4 from Illinois 2 from Pennsylvania 2 from Ohio, 2 from Lousiana, 1 from Kentucky, 1 from New York, 1 from Marylend, and 1 from the Choctaw Nation. The students in this University arc distributed according to thoir preparation and circumstances, into lour departments-— the Collegiate, Preparatory Collegiate, Sclent.tic, and Preparatory. The Scientific Department is so arranged as to meet the wants and wishes ol a large class of young men, whose time means or other circumstances do not admit ot their pursuing a regular collegiate course, but who desire to'qualify themselves for teaching, or for business pursuits/’ This is found very convenient and isembraced by many.The University, with tho exception of Indiana Central Medical College, a branch is located at Creeneastle, a very plesant anti healthy town in Putnam county forty miles west of Indianapolis.The Indiana Medical College at Lapnrl Indiana, and the Indiana Central Medical College in this city have been consolidated, and when acting in conjunction will form one ot the best medical institutions in the country. The number of students in the I. C. M. C- in 1850 was 41; number of graduates 18. The Honorary Degree of M. L). P\vns conferred on three gentlemen, and the Ad E undent Degree upon one.This University is one of the most prosperous Institutions in the’ Union, and will, no doubt continue to prosper, and progress in tho confidence of tiie people.—Indiana hi late Journal.
