By AUDREY STUBBART 10 YEARS AGO TODAY Mrs. Todd Sermon was named president of the Community Art Association at its annual meeting Sunday afternoon. She succeeds Charles T. Wesner, who has served the past two years. The association presented Wesner with a plaque, designed by Benn Bungar Jr., in ap preciation of his service. Olin B. Curtis, a 26-year veteran of the Missouri High way Patrol, was sworn in here this morning as assistant city marshal. He was appointed last night by Dr. Arch G. Campbell, serving as mayor pro tem. The Independence Sanitarium and Hospital Nurses Alumnae Association honored Dr. Fred W. Hink at a special dinner Thursday at the Old Plantation. Mrs. J. Darrell Craton, alumnae president, introduced Dr. and Mrs. Hink to the more than 100 guests who attended. 20 YEARS AGO TODAY The seventh traffic fatality in rural Jackson County since Jan. 1 occurred Sunday when Mrs. Myriel Westman of Kansas City was struck by a car while crossing U.S. 24 at the Mount Washington Cemetery in the Inter-City district. Mrs. Westman had been to visit her husband’s grave in preparation for Memorial Day. Mrs. Roy A. Wyatt, 2260 Sterling, who is a patient at the Independence Sanitarium and Hospital following surgery, has received the sort of news that is ‘“‘just what the doctor ordered.’’ In the mail yesterday was a contract from Longmans Green Co., New York publishers, for publication of her latest book, “Sun Eagle.”’
