Page 10911th Q. M.ON THE BALLbySgi. Raymond R. Simmons; Drew Field’s All-Star bail team proved that they are in reality “all stars” by winning a double-header last Thursday. Their opponents, the 8th Aviation Squad-.ron of MacDill Field, lost, 8 to 3„ and those poor “American All-Stars” lost, 10 to 2. They just couldn’t get hits off pitchers like Willie Smith and Sam Cole. Every man on the team really got their share of hits. One of the most spectacular plays- of the game was the home run walloped by Gibson over the right field fence in the last half of the first inning. Smith was realty master of the mound in the first game. He tossed that bail for a shut-out. With men on the mound like Smith and Cole, how can we lose?’Besides being master of the mound, Smith sent a sizzler out into right center field in the seventh inning of the first game and brought home Braynon, the little hunk of dynamite on first base, from second base for the score.vDallas, left fielder, connected in the seventh inning of the first game for a three-bagger. It’s really something to see this All-Star-man take a cut at the ball. Frank Ellis, the boy with the big league form, played third base. When I say he played it. I mean he played it jam up. Nothing went past him.In the second game, which Cole pitched and Lord caught, the American All-Stars got two runs in the first inning. From there on, everyone who got a hit died on base. The teams- scheduled to play Drew’s All-Stars in the future will rejoice in the knowledge that little John Braynon, our first baseman, is no longer with us. We are really going to miss you, John, and for everyone in Camp.—.. Answers to(m008 HAWK'S Ti/. YAHKWIZ1.—All of them.2.—Under five—about lOU mil-, lion. I’m , not saying that he walked from California here, but when you ride a train and come back to! camp with two pairs of GI shoes ! worn out, I darn sure am suspi- ■ cious. I think the government is slipping when it fails to utilize the mosquitoes in this section for dive-bomber purposes. I’ve never seen -a whole group of men so ready to fight in the mornings like the men in this outfit after a night of fighting insects and mosquitoes.“Phosgene” is starting a club— a whist, bridge and pinochle club.
