dan, Donald Knox, Lance Kenneth Rubek,Final Assembly of School Year The last assembly program of the year was held Monday afternoon bv the senior high school. Miss O’Brien was in charge. The singing of America” by the entire school, led by Miss Jaycox, opened the program and the scripture lesson was read from memory by Marjorie Fernow, an example of the work done by the students in the Bible course. A clever skit that brought many laughs fromthe audience was presented by Kent Hunter, Donald Smith, Joseph Greene and Marion Barnes, all of Miss Crowe’s public speaking class. John Schenken, captain of the track team, presented the large silver loving cup and relay banners to the school that the traek team won at the Anamosa meet, He also gave a review of theIvery successful season which thIMarion team has had this year. Principal Dole presented a handsome bronze medal to Clarice Clemans who won first place in the Lincoln Essay contest held recently. The medal is the gift of the Illinois Watcli company.Track Men Awarded Letters Coach Lee’s traek team has had a very successful season this year and the awarding of letters to the men on the track squad was a feature of Monday’s assembly. This year with Hunter and Schenken as stars, and other good men close on their heels, Marion has gathered its share of points in the face of any competition that has been encountered. The season opened with the Home Meet at the Marion fair grounds, April 11. This was won by the junior class with the ,'Seniors a close second. Our next meet tvasra dual with Anamosa high which we lost. Our men were superior in the track events and our weakness in the field events was later overcame* and a week later we defeated - Anamosa at their own invitation meet and captured first honors among theten schools entered. In a triangular meet with University High and Wilton Junction, Marion snowed its opponents under completely. At the fast State meet at Iowa City two of Marion’s^ men placed. May 9, at Cedar Rapids, Marion lacked only 7-10 of a point of winning the Grant Quadrangular meet with Anamosa, Grant, University High and Marion. The last meet of the year was at Cedar Falls last week and Marion placed fourth in this big contest. Men who received letters this year are: Capt Schenken, Hunter, Voss, Kahler, Jordan, Peterson, Woods, Ellson, Lawrence, Mootliart, Sauser, Ryan, Rein-heimer, Strickell and Rinard.Dinner in Honor of Coach LeeA farewell dinner in honor uf Coach Lee was given last Friday evening by the mothers of the boys on the basket ball team at the F. J. Hardenbrook home. Mr. Lee has been a member of the high school faculty as coach for four years, but will not return next year, having accepted a similar position at Charles City. The school colors were used in the decorations at the table, red tulips and yellow iris completing the color scheme.
