Colonel Uriah Lott, president of the road, rounded oft the announcement of the object of the meeting with the declaratioi that the project would not be given up until it terminated at Aransas Pass on the one end and Denver Colorado ou the other. After a happy address by .iuage Devine, uud short but aj-propriate remarks by Alderman Lockwood, W. II. Maverick and others, the thirty-eight teams of the company began work in earnest on an enterprise that bus been banging tire for years. Mr. Lott was called to the presidency of the road last March, imparted his spirit to the directory, aud the languishing enterprise was at once revived with new life.At his instance the directory authorized the tiling of an amendment to the charter, increasing the capital stock of the company to $3,000,000, limiting the issue to $.jU0,UU0 for the first fifty miles, aud providing that after the completion of the tifty miles, stock should issue only at the rate of $10,000 per mile of completed road. The ameuded charter also authorized the compauy to construct an additional 1 .VI miles of road from ban Antonio in a northwesterly direction. The executive committee, in the meantime, were authorized to place the portion of the line from Sau AuWmio to Aranses Pass under construction soon as right-of-way, depot facilities uud do- 1 nations from citizens along the line, from one , county seat to another, could be arranged and i obtained. Within 00 days after the work a as 1 mapped out, the oompauy obtained the right-of way through San Antonio ;secured by purchase of thirty-four acres, lying ou south Flores street, ou which to establish the depot; succeeded iu raising $.0,000 in Wilson county for -the location of the line via Floresvllle: ’ placed twenty miles of road, from this city to Calaveras, under contract, and May 8, wit* lt;nessed the inauguration of the work of cun- i struetion.
