Hayden denied selling cigars, and also questioned the officer’sauthority—demanded proof, for tlie reason that he was among strangers and run a risk of being imposed upon. The offi-cer would not deign to show his authority, and there the matter was supposed to have been dropped. A few days ago, however, Hayden was arrested on a writ issued at St Louis, and required to visitcustody of an officer. Arriving at St. Louis he gave bail and was permitted to return to Hannibal and securein his defense. Several parties were summoned, nd they leave for St.’ ’ .
