Roger Groce—Funeral services for Roger Quincy Mills Groce were held Monday, May 21, 1965, at 2:00 p.m. from the Providence Baptist Church w ith the Rev. Geary O. McManus and the Rev. R. G. Whitehead officiating1. “Old Rugged Cross’’ and “Nearer My God To Thee” were sung iy the Providence Baptist Church Choir, accompanied by Mrs. Joyce Hitchcock at the organ.Mr. Groce was born on July 22, 1885, in the Providence Community. He was the son of John Robert and Sallie Alder -man Groce. On December 7, 1905, he and Maude Thomas were united in marriage in Providence. Mrs. Groce preceded her husband in death on Fel -ruary 15, 1915. Mr. Groce was later married to Velma Nix on November 8, 1922, by Rev. Carrington in the Providence Community. Mr. Groce was a farmer* and owned his own farm. He lived his lifetime in Burleson County. Mr. Groce was a member of the Providence Baptist Church and he enjoyed gardening and fishing.He had been in failing health since January of 1960 and became seriously ill suddenly. For the past 6 years, he had made his home wdth his son, Alton. He died at his son's home on Saturday, May 22, at 4:30 p.m. Mr. Groce had attained the age of 79 years, and 10 months.He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; one son, Jimmie Wilson Groce who died January 10, 1959; one brother, Seth Groce; one sister, Miss Jimmie Groce; and two half sisters, Mrs. Lela Massey and Mrs. Emma Holmes.Survivors include his wife, Mrs. VWma Nix Groce of Cald-lieved to be the oldest active Ford agency owner* in the state at the time of his death Sunday.Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Connie Cade of Bryan; three sons, Charles E. Cade Jr., of Caldwell, Richard M. Carle of Houston and William (Buddy) Cade of Bryan; and a daughter, Mrs. Ann McKnight of Tyler- and five grandchildren.Van McClellan, John Bogard, Victor Barnett, Hoover Alford, Stanley prazak and Johnny Ros-ner served as pallbearers.well; four sons, J. R., Alton, Thomas, and William Groce, *ili of Caldwell; two daughters, Mrs. Maty Andrews of Caldwell and Mrs. Mildred Colwell of Waxahachie; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.Pallbearers were Ronny, Dennis H., Dillard, Don Groce and Seth S. Groce, Jr.; Travis M. Mathis. Larry Hemenes and Doyle Groce.Interment was in the Provi denee Cemetery under the direction of Harvoy-Schiller Funeral Directors.
